Post KS Rut

Trail cam pics have more than confirmed bucks have shifted to breeding zones and or are on the prowl. Being in the stand has provided a second assurance. Bucks are caring less about food each day and more about "getting it on". Sounds like me the later I stay at the bar... LOL

Kind of a warm spell this weekend so it may slow some but it will not stop me from being in the stand as much as possible.

Good luck!

Today I saw a single buck chasing two does and I said to my hired hand, "I think the rut is starting."

I'm seeing the same. Bucks are really starting to travel more. It was pretty warm here over the weekend so it slowed activity down a little though.

Red face Next Week...

Boys... the dang weather people cannot get on the same page. Some say mid to upper 60s next week and sun. Others say mid to upper 50s with rain/clouds and mix of sun.

Only freak'n job where you can be right a fraction of the time. Heck 30% is their magic number. With those odds vs. success maybe they should be hunting or better yet gambling.

Doesn't matter much. I am on vacation after tomorrow and in the stand for the next 9 days. Just wish the weather would cooperate and make it a little cooler.

Thumbs up Well...

Rut is in full swing here! I have seen everything from small bucks running does to bigger mature bucks locked on hot does to bucks fighting for territory.

Early last week it was mostly small bucks with a few bigger fellas running, chasing, grunting, etc. But with the cold snap late last week they are all about the pu-tang!

Up until Saturday night I still had deer refreshing scraps and making rubs in my area but less and less. They know where the does are now and are hot on their trail.

Peak rut (as far as I am concerned) is/was yesterday through wednesday. Maybe longer and maybe a day or two back and forth.

We now have 6-7 inches of snow on the ground with another 4 forecasted so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few days.

Got mine but will be hunting with the wife. So good luck you guys!

Rut has slowed quite a bit. Still several bucks seen looking for the next hot doe but fewer and fewer. They are more than likely moving around more now as does are bred in areas they have been roaming of late.

Several guys I have talked to are still having luck rattling and grunting but do not come all they way in (most of the time). A few wall hangers were shot this past weekend and several deer seen moving late in the morning.

All is not over and a second wave should bring some success this holiday weekend.

FYI for you guys next year. I would say plan your vacation from Nov. 9-20 or at least with in that 2 weeks. It was by far the best time to be in the stand this year. Best days I found were Nov. 13th thru Nov. 18th. Cold weather helped and the deer were out in full force.
