I have 2 generators. One Guardian Natural Gas Powered 20KW backup generator for the house. It is pretty loud outside the house, not so much inside the house, however when I loose power I only know it for about 10 seconds (the time it takes the generator to start itself and transfer the load). It runs our central heat/air, stoves etc.

The other is a honda EU 3000 and it is very quiet for those types of situations. They are basically made for camping so that you and your neighbors don't cause much noise pollution. We have left them on duck hunting powering ice eaters without any problems. Both are sweet machines but pricey.

Since I only visit my farm every 8 -10 weeks, the deer do notice human activity if I run the loud generator on my small 130 acre farm. I have noticed this pattern on deer cam surveys and with my own observations. I have one camera set 100 yards from the camper. This camera had recorded 8 - 10 deer per day until I got to camp and started the generator. For the next five days I only had 2 - 3 photos of passing deer!

For this reason, I no longer use the generator during hunting season. I take my batteries over to my neighbors place to charge during the day. This gives me power at night and enough amps to run my furnace heater.

Don't take this wrong, but it's you not the generator. It the activity in general that's creating the change in pattern. Steady engine noises are something deer hear on a regular basis.
