Default Southeast Ohio Rut

Still heating up in Athens, Ohio area. Saw a few bucks still hanging out together the other nite. Kept their distance from the bigger buck. Some sparring still going on. Lots of new scrapes and rubs popping up daily. Saw bucks start to show some interest as they rousted some does out of a foodplot and into some brush just at dark. Good luck.

Are you ready....?

Was out last Friday but didn't notice any rut activity. What I did notice was two dogs running through the woods, a red haired pot smokin hippy blasting loud rock music out of a run down trailer. He had a dog that is bigger than anything I've got on trail cam all year, barking his head off every time the bass hit a certain decible. At that point one of three neighbors with feeders had one go off and I heard deer moving that direction. Can't call this rut activity, more like pavlovs (sp?) dogs. To top off the evening my only neighbor without a feeder starts his diesel truck that sounds like a friggin airplane and heads off to work I imagine. I could see the darn thing smokin from my treestand. I don't know who to call first, the sherrif, dog catcher, or the EPA!!!!

Big rubs and scrapes popping up here. I found the rub below two weeks ago. My hunting partner watched two 120" 8's spar, work a scrape, and make a rub inside bow range last Saturday. I'm noticing more bucks running solo. I will be out 14 of the next 21 days, so I'm ready to see what is going down!

Things seem to be still heating up. Still sparring, but bucks tolerating each other. Saw a little threat posturing last pm, once again only the young bucks showing any interest. I don't seem to be seeing many bucks at nite either on my way home from work at nite.

Looks like PRIME TIME is yet to come.

I saw a good one this morning chasing a doe. This was near Lancaster. The doe still had a yearling doe trailing along with her. Overall, seems like it's been a little slow this year. I'm still not seeing many rubs or scrapes. Hopefully things will pick up soon!

Poor deer movement yesterday. High temps and full moon maby the reason.

Past 2 evenings... great. Chasing, grunting, scraping rubbing - the works! The mornings have been dead around here. Starting to see some older deer as well. Seems like things are ramping up. Good luck.
