Doesn't matter to us, where it is held... If the dates allow, we will plan to attend, regardless. This year, I was in a wedding that caused a conflict, but I think my buddies are just about all "married off", at this point.
I don't care if it's a 3 hour drive, or a 13 hour drive. Really, what's the difference, once you plan a road trip, and min-vaca weekend? What's another $200 in fuel? Big whoop!
I've heard what the primary considerations are, in choosing a local, and I don't know how soon it might become realistic to think that it could be held in this area, but I do think that St. Louis has a lot to offer, and would be a great location for it. There are a lot of local attractions, for visitors (including a nice Cabela's store). Down the road, I think Springfield, MO could have a good draw (which is home of BPS HQ, and only 30-40 mins, from Branson, for anyone wanting to make an extended vacation out of the event). Also, I could see Peoria, IL becoming a fantastic location for the convention, in the next few years. A new 140K sqft Bass Pro Shops store will be constructed, there, in 2011. There are casinos, on the river, and visitors could enjoy boating/water recreation, on Peoria lake, and could try their hand at bow fishing for the infamous asian carp, that fly up in the wake, on the IL River.
Maybe someday... But, until then, I don' have any heartache about visiting the South. I'd like to take in some whiskey/bourbon distilleries, down there, and see what the night life is like, in Nashville/Louisville/Chattanooga areas.
I've heard some great things, from the last 5 years, so I'd be happy to visit any of those locations.
If I put in my $.02 on any other local, it would be this:
"Please, DO NOT take it to Atlanta, GA!!!!!". I'd die a happy man, if I never step foot in that town, ever, again.
